He is remembered for his reckless courage, but as a 185.5cm centre half-back in a premiership side he needed to know where the ball was going before anyone else on the field.

As a player he was also an on-field coach.  In 1993, he played centre half-back and I was at centre half-forward.

He had worked out that in general play I could lose my man and he could slip into the forward line unmarked and get a goal or two if we swapped positions with a wink and a look.

This sort of play by today's standards is not cutting edge, but 17 years ago it allowed an inexperienced team with an undersized centre half-back and centre half-forward to win a premiership.

Harvs has always been a thinker. Away from footy he has had his hand in a string of successful business ventures and is loyal to people he trusts.

FREMANTLE has recorded an amazing comeback victory over reigning premiers Geelong to maintain its unbeaten start to the season.

The Dockers kicked six goals to three in the final term to run out 18.17 (125) to 17.16 (118) winners over the Cats at Subiaco Oval.

A goal to Paul Duffield with 68 seconds to play gave Fremantle an unassailable eight-point lead after an enthralling match.

Dockers skipper Matthew Pavlich led from the front with five goals and 26 disposals while youngster Stephen Hill (23 disposals, two goals) played one of his best games in his short career.

Ruckman Aaron Sandilands, midfielder David Mundy and defenders Luke McPharlin and Alex Silvagni were other solid contributors for the winners.

Geelong star Gary Ablett was outstanding with 33 disposals and four goals while Paul Chapman (28 disposals, three goals), Jimmy Bartel (22) and Joel Selwood (27) gave their everything.
