scource: Afl.com.au FREMANTLE coach Mark Harvey has asked his emerging young troopers to fulfil their potential next season. And in a declaration of allegiance to Fremantle, key defender Chris Tarrant said he never wants to leave the Dockers and could play beyond next season.
In an impassioned speech at Fremantle's Doig Medal presentation at Burswood on Friday night, Harvey said the past two seasons had been unacceptable.
The Dockers won just six games in each of the past two seasons to finish 14th each year.
"We cannot tolerate where we've finished in the last couple of years," Harvey said.
"You must understand you've got to fulfil your potential - not just individually, but from a team aspect."
Harvey, out of contract at the end of next season, said finals were in Fremantle's sights as he addressed more than 1000 guests in perhaps his most stirring public speech as senior coach in two seasons.
"The sooner you fast-track and instil belief in the younger players the better, because they're going to help you to get to those ambitions that you're looking for," he said.
"This game doesn't make exemptions for football clubs or for players.
"When is it going to be to fulfil your ambitions? It's got to be now," he said.
Transformed defender Tarrant claimed he had never intended to leave the Dockers, despite speculation the 2003 All-Australian forward could have been traded back to a Melbourne club.
Tarrant boldly admitted he had underachieved in his three seasons at Fremantle after finishing a personal-best third in the Dockers fairest-and-best, behind winner Aaron Sandilands and runner-up Matthew Pavlich.
"I know I haven't performed since I've been here, but hopefully I can turn that around over the next couple of years," he said.
"Even though (there were) reports that I was looking to go back home, I've never stated that at all.
"I've always said to the football club that I want to stay here at Fremantle.
"I'm very happy here and looking forward to playing next year and being part of a growing Fremantle side."
